The Clifford Clinic: HydraFacial Treatment Review

(Review) HydraFacial™ Treatment at The Clifford Clinic

Clifford ClinicHydraFacial™ is a treatment I’ve heard a few beauty bloggers raved about. This is a non-invasive treatment commonly found in many aesthetic clinic which provides a hydrating “facial-like” results with no downtime (no redness from usual facial extraction) and no irritation. The Clifford Clinic provides this service for their customers too, targeting at the office ladies (or men) who wish to get their treatment done in between lunch breaks and after work.

My Problems

While my acne problems were more pressing in the past, I did not notice my blackhead problem. But now that it is starting to settle, (like every girl) I started pin-pointing other issues. Hydrafacial ProblemsToo many cooks spoil the broth.

In order not to “spoil” whatever Dr Ee has helped resolve (my breakouts), I hoped to look for treatments in-clinic which is able to replace traditional facial which help to clean up pores and blackheads.

Luckily, the Clifford Clinic is a one-stop solution to all my problems. Dr Ee and the therapists know my condition best and I felt comfortable to try out new treatments that they recommend.

The HydraFacial™ Technology

Yes, Hydrafacial™ treatment was what I did, if not, this post will not be called HydraFacial review! According to the official website, the treatment removes dead skin cells and impurities while simultaneously bathing the new skin with solutions that contain cleansing, hydrating and moisturising properties. It is suitable for all skin types. Hydra Facial MachineWhile most ordinary salons are dependent on the skills of the therapists and the products used, this treatment is highly dependent on the machine above. It is able to achieve the four crucial steps of (1) Cleansing + Exfoliation, (2) Acid Peel, (3) Extraction and (4) Hydration, with the use of 2 important technology!  HydraPeel Tip1) HydraPeel™ Tips: Instead of human hands, this machine make use of specially shaped spiral tips to help achieve the four steps mentioned above. So these tips, the machine is able to do two things at one go: exfoliates and removes impurities while applying serums that cleanse, hydrate and provide antioxidant infusion during the treatment process. As the tips are moved over the skin, the serums are released to soften the skin and sebum making it much easier to extract away impurities whilst the skin is being exfoliated simultaneously.

The teal coloured tip acts like a mini vacuum which makes use of vortex-suction to clean out pores painlessly with the help of serum.

Hydrafacial Machine2) Proprietary Serums: This is applied via the Hydropeel™ Tips, and different steps are used to target specific problem – skin health, fine line & wrinkles, age reversal, brightening treatment, oily/congested and sensitive skin.

Vortex-Exfoliation™ (blue tip): Activ-4™ serum contains lactic and glycolic acid which deeply cleanses and aids in exfoliating dead skin cells. The algae extract calms and soothes the skin with added hydration benefits. Yeast extract firms and smoothes the appearance of fine lines.  Glysal™ serum, a mixture of glycolic and salicylic acids which exfoliate and peel simultaneously to soften sebum and remove impurities, delivering the benefits of a peel without post-peel scaling.

Vortex-Extraction™ Patented (teal tip): Specifically designed for acne-prone and oily skin, Beta-HD™ serum has salicylic acid which gently exfoliates and aids in extractions. This step helps alleviate congestion. The serum also has honey extract (hydration + anti-bacterial) and Spirea Ulmaria Flower extract (soothes + calms skin).

Vortex-Fusion™ (clear tip): Antiox+™ serum nourish and protect skin with antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid. It also has horse chestnut seed, green tea and arnica flower extracts to detoxify & protect skin from environmental free radical damage.

The Hydrafacial™ Process

Hydrafacial Treatment Tiffany YongScience aside, the treatment is pretty soothing and gently. With a routined way of moving the tip (upwards) against my skin, the most enjoyable (or fun) part was the use of the patented vortex suction (Extraction teal-coloured tip) to suck out softened sebum and dead skin cells. Hydrafacial MaskThere after, according to my skin type, the therapist will apply a mask to lock the nutrients in the skin and further calm the skin down! Favourite time of treatment as it means resting time!

Verdict: My Hydrafacial™ Results

Hydrafacial Before AfterI guess people with little skin problems should be able to notice visible skin refinement and a more radiant skin tone. As there is no downtime for the treatment, you can apply make-up and go on with your normal activities after that. But for me, the change was not as significant as I would like it to be. While I don’t see much changes, my post-treatment face did not become redder or swollen like that of a normal facial.

Hydrafacial BlackheadsAs my blackheads and clogged pores had been there for over 5 months, I felt that the extraction was not “thorough” as compared to a therapist doing manual extraction. According to the therapist, the sebum has hardened for a long time and it would take more than one treatment for me to remove the blackheads.

However, not having to endure an hour of painful extraction is DEFINITELY a plus point for me (as well as anyone who has low pain threshold). This is also recommended for AGNES patients as it will not aggravate the skin condition.

à la carte session of the HydraFacial™ treatment cost S$280. Bundled package price with Q-Switch sessions are also available!

  1. I signed up for a series of 3 treatments, spaced about 2 weeks apart. I filled out personal paperwork including info about my skincare routine and habits. Nicole explained how it works–basically, the machine utilizes a Vortex-Fusion® serum delivery system to simultaneously cleanse, exfoliate, remove impurities and dead skin cells while also replenishing vital nutrients including Antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid–and went to work on my skin.
I really did notice a big difference in my skin after the very first one. My complexion looked more even-toned and radiant. So much so, that I chose to avoid foundation completely for the next few days because I’m smart enough to know you don’t cover up glowing skin. That being said, I did apply a bit of concealer on under eye circles and a lingering blemish or two and I stuck to my usual minimal eye makeup.

    1. Hi Jeffer, Agnes is to deter future pimple/ acne growth while Q-Switch helps to lighten the existing pimple marks and pigmentation. It is not a package but advisable to go hand-in-hand.

  2. i hate going fir my monthly facials because it hurts! But I still do cos my skin needs it. At 280$ a pop to go wo the pain from manual extraction…. I think I will just bear with it la.

  3. Your face does look more radiant after the treatment. I love how clinical it is – that HydraFacial machine looks fab. Keeping all those bottles and extracting the products direct and only apply to your face via the HydroPeel tip is a good way to keep everything hygiene and sterile.

  4. You’ve been visiting the Clifford Clinic a lot recently I think, and I must say that there is quite an improvement when it comes to your skin problems. I can’t wait for you to get the end result you want to achieve. The Hyrdafacial treatment they offer sounds interesting, I don’t think we have that in Manila yet.

  5. I guess it really depends on how bad the blackheads problem is for the person. Some really need traditional extraction. Most important is the presence of a dermatologist in the clinic where these things are done. A technician alone is not enough. – Fred

  6. I still prefer the manual extraction because it really removes all the impurities in the face. Good thing I have high pain tolerance, though I still cry when they prick my chin/upperlip :p

  7. hmm, seems like this is a little too mild? probably will be suitable for those ladies with more or less perfect skin. i’ll endure the pain of a ‘manual’ extraction anytime for thoroughly cleansed after-facial face!
